Berry Crowned Winner of “Idols SA”
The winner of “Idols SA” season 17 has been crowned, and it’s Berenike “Berry” Trytsman!
Throughout the season, Berry – a 30-year-old mother hailing from Cape Town – wowed the judges and audiences at home with her smooth, soulful vocals, earning her a slew of fans across the country.
On Sunday night, 21 November, her fans came through for her: more than 12.5 million votes were cast last week, the majority of which were for Berry. As a result, she won a R1 million cash prize, a Renault Kiger, and a recording deal with Kalawa Jazmee Records among other fabulous prizes.
Runner-up Karabo Mathe won R50 000 in an Old Mutual Money Account, R50 000 cash from Vodacom, R50 000 in Truworths fashion vouchers, and a Regenesys Business School bursary for a Higher Certificate in Business Management worth R87 000.
Berry spoke excitedly about her win with a media outlet: “I’m feeling overwhelmed because I worked so hard to be on that stage, and to make it to the Top 2 with someone as amazing as Karabo who’s also as talented vocally became a dream come true.”
She also commented on her season 6 stint: “Back then, I was young and quite ambitious but I made a promise to myself that no matter what, I’d come back and try my luck again despite my age, a divorce and two kids later.”
Congrats on the victory, Berry!
